Temples in Kyoto
This morning I took a taxi to Shisendo, one of my favorite places in Kyoto. I had the whole place to myself with the exception of two Europeans recording the sounds in the garden -- birds, rushing stream and the thud of the bamboo water tube.
The aesthetic relief that such a place gives is one of the wonders of Japan. The contrast of such a self-conscious and perfect environment in these temple precincts with that only a few blocks away makes being there all the more important.
