Friday in showery Kyoto. First stop is the bank. No fun travelling without a pocketful of local currency. Next stop the big Kyoto Antique fair.
It looks more promising than it is. There are fewer kimono dealers and less of what I know is of interest to you all. But I managed to find some useful, colorful and beautiful kimono -- only half as many as last year.
Two dealers make a practice of arranging their spaces with some aesthetic sensitivity.
But the items they show would, I fear, go unclaimed at Asiatica. The context is more saleable than the pieces.
Then I did a quick overview at Takashimaya. The wooden bowl was light as a feather and had a beautiful gold dot. The price marked is about $125. Any orders?
These are the toilet instructions in the ladies room.
Then a walk home via my favorite coffee shop. Beethoven playing as an accompaniment.
Dinner tonight with 4 convivial dealer friends.
